Pain & Gain was released in 2013, and was directed by Michael Bay. This film is adapted from a true story about murder and kidnapping committed by a group of bodybuilders in Miami in the 1990s. The film tells the story of Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg), a fitness trainer who is ambitious but frustrated with his life at that time.
Daniel Lugo forms a team with Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) and Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson), to plan the kidnapping of a wealthy businessman, Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub). But their plans quickly turned disastrous. Cruelty and mistakes ensue, making what was initially an easy mission a disaster. Pain & Gain is adapted from a New Times article written by Pete Collins, which tells the true story of a murder and kidnapping that occurred in Miami in 1990.
Even though it features a star cast, the film Pain & Gain received harsh criticism. Some viewers think that with the story presented, it is not very suitable if the film is made into a comedy. The film was also considered not very accurate with the real story that happened.
